Supervirial Temperature or Neon Overabundance? Suzaku Observations of the Milky Way Circumgalactic Medium

چکیده
Abstract We analyzed Suzaku and Chandra observations of the soft diffuse X-ray background toward four sight lines with goal characterizing emission from Milky Way circumgalactic medium (CGM). identified two thermal components CGM, one at a uniform temperature kT = 0.176 ± 0.008 keV other temperatures in range 0.65–0.90 keV. The lower-temperature component is consistent Galaxy’s virial (?10 6 K). hotter are similar to that recently discovered 7 K) line blazar 1ES 1553+113, passing close Fermi bubble. Alternatively, spectra can be described by just supersolar neon abundance, once again found 1553+113 line. additional hot or overabundance Ne required significance >4 ? , but we cannot distinguish between possibilities. These results show supervirial gas an enhanced abundance warm-hot CGM widespread, these not necessarily related

Milky Way
7 Globular clusters and Population II stars are fossil remnants of the first major epoch of star formation in the Milky Way. SIM Lite will determine precise distances to selected Pop II objects to define a reliable distance scale, and establish reliable absolute and relative ages. Those ages set a minimum age for the Universe and map the early formation history of the Milky Way. The resultant a...
متن کاملThe Impact of Galactic Feedback on the Circumgalactic Medium
Galactic feedback strongly affects the way galactic environments are enriched. We examine this connection by performing a suite of cosmological hydrodynamic simulations, exploring a range of parameters based on the galaxy formation model developed in Vogelsberger et al. (2013) (henceforth V13). We examine the effects of AGN feedback, wind mass loading, wind specific energy, and wind metal-loadi...
متن کاملFormation of the Milky Way
We review observational evidence bearing on the formation of a prototypical large spiral galaxy, the Milky Way. New groundand space-based studies of globular star clusters and dwarf spheroidal galaxies provide a wealth of information to constrain theories of galaxy formation. It appears likely that the Milky Way formed by an combination of rapid, dissipative collapse and mergers, but the relati...
متن کاملSuzaku Observations of the Circinus Galaxy
We report Suzaku observations of the active, Compton-thick Circinus galaxy. Observations were obtained with both the X-ray Imaging spectrometer (XIS) and the Hard X-ray Detector (HXD). Below 10 keV, the nuclear spectrum is dominated by radiation reflected from cold dense gas of high column density, while above 13 keV the radiation is directly transmitted nuclear emission seen through a column d...
